Wike Declares Amaechi 2027 Ambition Dead On Arrival

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the 2027 presidential bid of former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, insisting that his chances of securing a ticket are nonexistent.

The declaration was made during a televised interview on Tuesday night, where Wike spoke on political developments ahead of the next general election.

Wike explained why Amaechi’s ambition is unrealistic, pointing to his long record of electoral defeats in both state and national contests. He recalled previous elections where Amaechi either contested directly or supported other candidates but failed to deliver victory. According to him, this track record leaves no basis for believing that Amaechi could succeed in a presidential contest.

The minister also questioned Amaechi’s claim that he understood President Bola Tinubu’s weaknesses and could defeat him. He described such claims as baseless, stressing that the political terrain has repeatedly shown Amaechi’s inability to achieve victories even when occupying influential positions such as governor and minister.

Wike further broadened his criticism by pointing at former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, advising him to respond to questions raised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. He said it was more appropriate for Tambuwal to address the allegations directly rather than trying to present them as political persecution.

The FCT minister also commented on the grievances of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal. He said Lawal’s dissatisfaction with President Tinubu began after he was not selected as vice president in 2023. According to Wike, Lawal’s expectation of being chosen for that position explains his public opposition to the administration.

In his remarks, Wike added that governance does not require every individual to have direct access to the president, as ministers and advisers exist to represent him. He maintained that the presidency functions through established structures rather than personal expectations.

With his sharp dismissal of Amaechi’s chances and criticisms of other political actors, Wike has once again positioned himself as a dominant voice within the ruling party. His comments are likely to fuel further debates as preparations for the 2027 election continue to unfold.
