The Obafemi Awolowo University Dental Students’ Association has confirmed the death of one of its members, who allegedly took his own life shortly after the release of examination results.

In a statement signed by IFUDSA President, Adebayo Idris, the association described the incident as a devastating loss and a reminder of the silent struggles many students face.

The group urged students to support each other and seek professional help when needed, stressing that mental health is as important as physical health. IFUDSA also pledged to continue advocating for better student welfare and mental health support to help prevent similar tragedies.
The university has faced similar incidents in the past. In 2021, a 200-level Accounting student named Emmanuel died after ingesting pesticide, and in 2019, English and Literature student Opeyemi Grace Dara also took her life.
