The legal dispute between Badeggi 90.1 FM Radio and the Niger State Government may soon be resolved without further litigation, as the state has opted for an out-of-court settlement.

The case, filed by the station’s lawyer, Barrister Philip Emmanuel, challenged the government’s decision to shut down the broadcaster. At Monday’s hearing at the Minna High Court, defence counsel, Barrister Jacob Johnson Usman (SAN), informed the court that both parties had agreed to pursue a peaceful resolution in the interest of the public.

Usman said he had discussed the settlement proposal with the Governor of Niger State and the Attorney General, who consented to the move. Counsel for the plaintiffs also agreed. The court fixed September 3, 2025, for both sides to report on the progress of the settlement.

Earlier on August 5, Justice Mohammed Mohammed granted an interim injunction in favour of Badeggi FM, its parent company Badeggi Broadcasting Service Ltd, and Managing Director Alhaji Mohammed Shu’aibu Badeggi. The ruling restrained the state government, its Attorney General, and the State Urban Development Board from taking any action that could harm the station’s broadcasting licence or business premises.
