The African Democratic Congress has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of turning the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission into a political tool to intimidate opposition figures.

The party warned that such actions are weakening Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts and eroding public trust in the agency.

According to the ADC, recent activities by the EFCC, such as reopening old cases and summoning opposition politicians, appear to be driven by political motives rather than a genuine fight against corruption. The party alleged that the commission has shown a pattern of selective prosecution, often dropping investigations into APC members while pursuing allegations against opposition leaders.

The ADC cited the case of a former governor who defected to the APC, claiming that all EFCC investigations into his administration disappeared from public view after the defection.
