Former Lagos State deputy governor, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to officially recognise the late Chief Moshood Abiola as a former Nigerian president.

Ojikutu said Tinubu should add Abiola’s name to the list of past leaders in honour of his victory in the annulled 1993 presidential election and his role in the fight for democracy.

She noted that while former president Muhammadu Buhari awarded Abiola the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic title and made June 12 Democracy Day, full recognition was still lacking.

Other prominent Nigerians, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and former Lagos lawmaker Jude Idimogu, have also called for Abiola’s portrait to be placed alongside past presidents at the Presidential Villa.
