A Nigerian peacebuilding group has sent a petition to the UK Parliament and the Conservative Party, demanding action over recent comments made by British Cabinet Minister Kemi Badenoch.

The group, Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro), says Badenoch made a false and damaging statement about Nigeria during a CNN interview, and wants the UK government to respond.

The controversy began when Badenoch claimed that Nigerian women cannot pass their citizenship to their children. PeacePro says this is not only untrue but also harmful to Nigeria’s image. According to the group, the Nigerian Constitution guarantees equal rights to men and women in matters of nationality. They argue that Badenoch’s remarks lack legal grounding and misrepresent the country’s laws on citizenship.

The group stressed that diplomacy is built on respect and accuracy. They warned that misleading claims by influential figures could break trust and slow down progress in international partnerships. In closing, PeacePro urged the UK government to act responsibly and ensure that public officials communicate with truth and care when speaking about other nations.
