The Federal Government has approved a ₦1 billion grant for the Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State to set up innovation hubs and parks on its campus. The funding, provided through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), was confirmed in an official communication dated June 19, 2025.

This initiative places FUD among a small group of universities selected to benefit from the government’s push to boost creativity, technology, and self-reliance in higher institutions. The goal is to equip students with practical skills that prepare them not just for employment, but to become job creators across various sectors.

The university plans to establish 14 specialised components as part of the innovation hub. These include spaces for product design, 3D printing, software development, biotechnology, electronics, and leathercraft. Each section will be equipped with modern tools and facilities to support research, learning, and hands-on experience.

The project also features labs for embedded systems, refrigeration and air conditioning, fashion and textile design, and sustainable energy development. Additionally, workshops for metal and woodwork are part of the plan, providing a creative space for artisans, engineers, and designers to bring their ideas to life.
