Tinubu Swears in Nnanna Kalu as NASC Commissioner For South East

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Dr Nnanna Uzor Kalu as commissioner representing the South-East in the National Assembly Service Commission.

The brief ceremony was held just before the Federal Executive Council meeting at the State House in Abuja.

Kalu’s appointment had earlier been delayed following a petition against him. However, the Senate later cleared him after the Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions found no basis for disqualification. The Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service then presented a report recommending his confirmation.

In May, Tinubu had sworn in Saviour Enyiekere as chairman of the commission, along with commissioners from other zones. Kalu’s swearing-in now completes the commission’s regional representation, marking a notable moment for the South-East which had lacked a voice on the panel.

At the meeting, the council observed a minute silence in honour of Caleb Olubolade, a former minister under Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. He reportedly collapsed while playing tennis.

Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Emanso Umobong Okop, who represented the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, informed the council of the death.

The FEC meeting had in attendance Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and several ministers.
