The Nigerian Railway Corporation has alerted train passengers to beware of fake online ticket vendors defrauding unsuspecting travelers.
In a statement released on Tuesday, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said the fraudulent platforms have been collecting payments through personal bank accounts while pretending to be official booking sites for train tickets.
Unyimadu stressed that the NRC has no link to these illegal websites. He warned passengers not to pay into any personal or unverified account, as doing so would be at their own risk.
“These platforms are not affiliated with the Corporation,” he said. “Passengers are strongly advised to avoid these fraudulent sites and only use our verified booking channels.”
The NRC listed its official ticket platforms as follows:
- Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS): https://nrc-fane.ng
- Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS): https://nrc.tps.ng
- Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS): https://nrc.gsds.ng
Passengers are also encouraged to visit the official NRC website at www.nrc.gov.ng or contact customer service to verify any booking information.
Unyimadu assured the public that the corporation is working with security agencies to track down and prosecute those behind the scam.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all our esteemed passengers,” he added.
