Anambra LG Equips Health Centres And Backs Youth Businesses

Orumba South Local Government Area in Anambra State has taken steps to strengthen healthcare delivery and youth development by distributing medical equipment to health centres and supporting young entrepreneurs with funding.

The initiative was led by the council chairman, Shedrack Azubuike, who presented the items during an event held on Saturday at the local government headquarters. Eighteen primary healthcare centres across the LGA received various medical tools to improve patient care and reduce avoidable deaths.

Items distributed include hospital beds, delivery kits, pulse oximeters, suction machines, anti-shock garments, drip stands, fetoscopes, baby cots, MUAC tapes, and ward screens, among other essentials. These tools are expected to improve diagnosis and treatment at grassroots health facilities.

The chairman said the intervention is part of ongoing efforts to support the vision of the state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, who has prioritized better health services and lower maternal and infant mortality rates in Anambra.

He explained that beyond providing equipment, the goal is to build a more effective healthcare system where lives are saved and patients get faster, quality treatment without unnecessary referrals.

Health workers from the benefiting centres were present at the event. Speaking on their behalf, community health worker Nneka Ibeh confirmed that all 18 centres received the equipment and expressed gratitude for the support. She assured the public that the items would be put to proper use to meet local health needs.

In a related effort to boost local economic development, the LG chairman awarded N1 million each to two young entrepreneurs. The funds are intended to support their business proposals and help them scale up their ventures for greater community impact.

Azubuike described the financial support as an investment in the youth of Orumba South. He said empowering enterprising individuals is key to building a stronger local economy.

The beneficiaries, Sunday Ezulike and Arinze Eze, expressed appreciation and pledged to grow their businesses and contribute meaningfully to the local community.

This dual effort by the council reflects a growing commitment to improving both health services and youth empowerment in the area.
