Residents said the rainfall, which began around 3 a.m. on Sunday, submerged homes and forced people to flee in the dark. Six areas with nearby ponds (Kududdufi) were reportedly worst hit.

Alhaji Ishaq Sarkin-Fulani, a resident, said many victims were left stranded and had to seek shelter with friends and relatives outside the affected zones. He blamed the scale of flooding on blocked drainage channels filled with refuse.

Another resident, Alhaji Isma’il Namadi, said the floodwaters reached the Dankama central mosque and called on the government to provide immediate help.

Authorities say efforts are underway to clear the blocked drainages and provide emergency support to displaced households.
