Appeal Court sitting in Calabar, has affirmed the conviction of Akwa Ibom state YPP Governorship candidate, Senator Bassey Albert (OBA).

The court ordered his immediate re-arrest and ordered that he should refund N240 million to the Akwa Ibom State Government.

He was also ordered to pay N1 million to the court.
On December 1, 2022, Senator Albert Bassey, who represented Akwa Ibom North-East District in the 9th National Assembly was convicted on corruption charges. He was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The trial judge at the Federal High Court in Uyo, Agatha Okeke, convicted the senator on all the six-count charges against him and sentenced him to seven years in prison for each charge, totalling 42 years.

The court also ordered Albert to repay N204 million to the state as a condition for his release after serving out the jail term.
The senator appealed his conviction then and was subsequently granted bail.
