Ekiti Grassroots Movement, a socio-political group has called on Ekiti State Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi to release the former Special Assistant to the immediate past governor of Ekiti state Ayo Fayose, Mr. Lere Olayinka, adding that no amount of victimization will gag opposition in Ekiti.
Lere Olayinka has been detained for more than 12 hours at the police command in Ekiti, allegedly on the order of Governor Fayemi.
Reacting to the recent detention of Lere yesterday, the founding father of the group, Hon. Bamidele Oluwole said Fayemi should tread softly and allow opposition to have its say in Ekiti.
Bamidele said any attempt by Nigeria police to detain Lere beyond necessary would be resisted by well meaning people of the state.
“One of the beauties of a democratic government is when opposition is allowed to function without fear or intimidation.
” What Lérè Olayinka has been doing so far in this present political space is making the governments at all levels to be alive to their responsibilities. If the state has any case against him, he should be charged to court rather than breaching his constitutional and fundamental rights.
“We can not sit back and watch the tyranny and inclemency of the APC at the Federal level extend to Ekiti state. Though APC as a party is known for its clampdown on opposition, Ekiti people will not succumb to Fayemi’s tyranny. We will not sit indolently and watch our rights trampled,” Bamidele said.
