More than thirty men suspected to be terrorists invaded a police station in Ido-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Local Area of Ekiti State, carting away arms and ammunitions in the station, while also killing one police inspector and injuring another one.
The slain police inspector was identified as Taiwo while the other one that was shot is said to be receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center, Ido Ekiti.
A resident of the area told WazobiaReporters that the police station was invaded at about 9pm yesterday with explosives.
“There was heavy shooting at the police station for more than one hour while explosives were freely used by the invaders, most of who wore black and were masked.
“Even police vehicles parked at the station were destroyed with explosives,” the resident who craved anonymity said.
Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Albert Adeyemi confirmed the incident, but refused to give further details. He however disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Etop John James visited the police station a few minutes ago for an on the spot assessment and also visited the hospital to see the injured police officer.
