In a notice issued on Monday and circulated through its official social media platforms, the commission described the publication as fake and warned Nigerians against sharing or relying on the information.

INEC clarified that the announcement did not originate from the electoral body, urging the public to verify election-related information through its recognised communication channels.

The commission listed its official website as inecnigeria.org and identified its verified social media accounts as @inecnigeria on X and Instagram, and INEC Nigeria on Facebook. It also directed Nigerians to its news portal, inecnews.com, for authentic updates.

The warning comes days after the commission released the final lists of candidates for the governorship elections scheduled for February 6, 2027.

Following the publication, questions emerged over the absence of some expected candidates from the lists. Among those reportedly omitted were Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates Ladi Adebutu in Ogun State and Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami in Gombe State.

The published documents did not state the reasons for their omission, prompting further attention to the candidate lists.

INEC urged Nigerians to rely exclusively on its official platforms for accurate information about candidates and electoral activities as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
