The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has left the governorship candidates of four political parties off its published list for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election.
The affected parties are the Social Democratic Party (SDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Action Alliance (AA) and Accord Party.
INEC published the list of governorship candidates and their running mates on its official website on Saturday, naming 15 candidates for the election to choose a successor to Governor Bala Mohammed.
The published list includes candidates from the African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP) and National Rescue Movement (NRM).
However, the commission had not provided an explanation for excluding the four parties from the list at the time the information became available.
The omission has left uncertainty over the status of the affected parties’ governorship nominations and whether their candidates will participate in the forthcoming election. Further clarification is expected from INEC and the parties concerned.
The 2027 election will determine who succeeds Governor Bala Mohammed, as political parties prepare their candidates and structures for the contest.
