The NDC members had gathered at the airport to welcome the party’s governorship candidate, Chinyeaka Ohaa, when the incident occurred.

Obi said the attack had reportedly resulted in the death of one person, describing the development as unfortunate and warning that the growing use of violence in politics could have far-reaching consequences.

He cautioned those in government against allowing lawlessness to thrive, saying the consequences of anarchy would eventually affect everyone.

The former Anambra State governor also revealed that some of his planned engagements in different states had been cancelled after people who invited him reportedly received threats.

He expressed concern over what he described as a pattern of intimidation that could prevent political activities and discourage people from participating freely in the democratic process.

The incident comes about a month after the NDC alleged that its members were attacked by individuals it described as state-sponsored thugs during a grassroots meeting in Obuoffia Ward, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The latest attack has renewed concerns about political violence as parties and their candidates prepare for the 2027 general elections.

Obi urged those in positions of authority to take the situation seriously, warning that allowing violence and disorder to continue could threaten the safety of citizens and undermine democratic participation.
