Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing in Abuja on fuel prices and the government’s position on subsidy-related issues.

Oyedele explained that the arrangement was not a return to petrol subsidy but a temporary measure under which the government would sell the product at cost.

He said the discount would initially run for 30 days and would focus particularly on public transporters nationwide.

The minister said the government introduced the measure as part of efforts to provide relief to transport operators and manage the impact of current petrol prices.

He maintained that the arrangement should not be interpreted as a reinstatement of the petrol subsidy regime, stressing that the government would simply provide petrol through NNPCL at cost during the period.
