2027: ADC Defies INEC Warning, Vows to Publish Polling-Unit Results

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said it will document, collate and make polling-unit election results available to the public during the 2027 general elections despite a warning from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against privately collated results.

The party said it recognised INEC’s legal authority to make official declarations and announce election winners but maintained that political parties and citizens could independently collect, verify and share election figures.

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party’s position was based on constitutional provisions relating to the right to collect and disseminate information.

The party said its polling agents would record results at individual polling units, while its party structures would collate and verify the figures before releasing them to the public.

According to the ADC, any figures released by the party would clearly indicate their source and status to distinguish them from results officially declared by INEC.

The party maintained that INEC’s responsibility to announce official results did not prevent citizens or political organisations from gathering their own information about the voting process.

The ADC’s position followed a warning by INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, against the publication of privately collated election results.

The commission has maintained that the statutory responsibility for declaring official election results and announcing winners rests with INEC.

Despite the warning, the ADC said it intended to continue with its plan to document results from polling units and make verified figures available to the public during the 2027 elections.
