The minister spoke on Monday during town hall meetings with stakeholders from the Rumueme and Apara Kingdoms in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Wike said Atiku and Amaechi would struggle to secure the constitutionally required 25 per cent of votes in Rivers State, while also questioning the political strength of their alliance.

He referred to criticisms previously made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo against Atiku during their time in government, arguing that the former vice president’s political record should be considered by voters.

Wike also criticised the decision to include Amaechi on the ADC ticket, alleging that the former Rivers governor’s record in public office should also be examined.

The FCT Minister further criticised Atiku over comments concerning money allegedly being distributed by the ruling party ahead of the election. Wike questioned Atiku’s position on corruption in view of previous allegations and disagreements surrounding his time as vice president.

Turning to the 2027 presidential election, Wike said his current political priority was supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He urged Rivers residents to support Tinubu, saying the President had provided development projects and political appointments for people from the state.

Wike also called on voters to assess the administration based on what he described as its contributions to Rivers State rather than political sentiments.

The minister said he expected Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Rivers State to be easier than the 2023 election and called for increased support for the President.

Addressing political and community stakeholders in Rumueme and Apara, Wike also urged them to avoid internal conflicts and disputes that could affect grassroots political activities.

He said political leaders should maintain strong relationships with the people and avoid actions capable of destabilising their communities.

Wike also criticised Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), alongside other opposition politicians, questioning their prospects in the 2027 election.

The comments came amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 general election, with Wike continuing to support Tinubu while criticising opposition figures and parties seeking to challenge the ruling administration.
