The institute also maintains professional standards for its members, requiring them to demonstrate honesty, objectivity and diligence in the discharge of their duties. Members are also expected to continually improve their skills and maintain high standards of competence, morality and professional conduct.
As part of its professional and academic network, the institute collaborates with institutions in Nigeria and abroad, including Bournemouth University Disaster Management Centre in the United Kingdom, the International Association of Emergency Managers in the United States, The International Emergency Management Society in Belgium and other universities and professional organisations.
Its Nigerian collaborations include the University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Port Harcourt, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Petroleum Training Institute and other institutions involved in disaster management, safety and strategic studies.
