The Ogun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Adeola Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, has said the state should aim to deliver at least two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Olamilekan made the call on Saturday during the inauguration of the Ogun State executives of the CityBoy Movement and the opening of the group’s state secretariat in Abeokuta.
The CityBoy Movement is a grassroots support organisation campaigning for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Olamilekan said Ogun had more than three million registered voters and should therefore target two million votes for the president in the election.
He also commended the Tinubu administration for projects and federal interventions in Ogun State, citing them as reasons for increased support for the president.
Among the projects mentioned were the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Expressway, the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Abeokuta and the conversion of Tai Solarin University of Education into a federal institution.
The event was attended by the Minister of State for Health, Ishaq Salako; Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation, Sunday Dare; and the President’s Personal Assistant on Special Duties, Alhaji Kamorudeen Yusuf.
Governor Dapo Abiodun was represented at the event by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Ogun State Director-General of the CityBoy Movement, Dr Abdulateef Sulaimon, said the organisation would focus on mobilising young people and encouraging their participation in the democratic process.
Sulaimon disclosed that the movement had enrolled more than 150,000 active members in Ogun within one month of starting its membership drive.
He said the organisation was working towards building a verifiable grassroots membership of more than 500,000 people across the state before January 2027.
The national Director-General of the movement, Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, charged the newly inaugurated state executives to expand the organisation’s activities across all 20 local government areas of Ogun.
Shoga urged them to establish a coordinated and disciplined grassroots structure capable of sustaining the movement’s activities ahead of the 2027 election.
He described the appointments as a responsibility to serve and commended Yusuf for his role in expanding the movement’s activities in Ogun State.
