Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the death of actor Chijioke ‘Cjay’ Nwokafor.

The actor’s death was announced on Wednesday by his colleague, actress Nkechi Blessing, on Instagram.

Blessing did not disclose the cause of his death but announced that she had postponed the premiere of her new film, Egusi Ogbono, in which Cjay featured, following his death.
The movie had been scheduled to premiere at 5pm on Wednesday.
Blessing said she had spoken with Cjay around 8am on the day of his death but received news of his passing only a few hours later.

Other Nollywood colleagues have also reacted to the actor’s death, expressing shock and sadness over his sudden passing.
Actor Charles Born said he had planned to visit Cjay at a hospital before learning of his death.
Another actor, Emeka Nwagbaraocha, also expressed disbelief on X, recalling that he had exchanged messages with Cjay only a few days earlier.
As of press time, Cjay’s family had not issued an official statement on the cause of death or announced burial arrangements.
Cjay began his acting career in 2021 and was known for his appearances in films including Larry Cold, Mum Overnight and A Day to My Wedding.
