The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has begun efforts to resolve technical problems affecting its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), temporarily leaving the platform unavailable to users.
JAMB announced the disruption in a statement issued by the Acting Director of its Public Affairs and Protocol Department, Fabian Benjamin.
According to the board, the problem started earlier and was linked to technical difficulties involving the organisation hosting the CAPS platform.
JAMB said it had opened discussions with the hosting organisation to identify the cause of the problem and restore the system as soon as possible.
The board said the timing of the disruption was particularly important because CAPS serves as the main platform used to process admissions into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
With the admission exercise currently underway, universities and other tertiary institutions are using the system to process admission decisions, while candidates are also relying on the platform to check the progress and outcomes of their applications.
JAMB said it decided to inform the public about the situation to prevent candidates, institutions and other users from speculating about the cause of the outage.
The board apologised for the inconvenience caused by the temporary unavailability of CAPS and assured stakeholders that efforts were continuing to restore the platform.
JAMB also said it would examine the circumstances surrounding the disruption after the system is restored. The review, according to the board, would help identify measures that could prevent similar interruptions in the future.
The board asked candidates, institutions and other stakeholders to remain patient while the technical issues are being addressed, adding that further information would be released as developments occur.
