The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has appointed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

El-Rufai was named alongside other members of the campaign council approved by Atiku as part of the structure for the party’s presidential campaign.

The former governor will serve under Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, who was appointed Chairman of the council, while Senator Augustine Okwudiri Akobundu will serve as Director-General and Campaign Manager.

Under the campaign structure, El-Rufai is expected to take part in high-level political coordination and engagement with stakeholders across the country.
The appointment comes as El-Rufai remains in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in connection with an ongoing investigation and related legal proceedings.
The former Kaduna governor is also facing a separate legal matter involving the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations connected to the interception of communications involving the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The appointment places El-Rufai among the senior figures expected to play a role in coordinating the ADC’s campaign activities as the party prepares for the 2027 presidential election.
