Oyo 2027: INEC Confirms Adegoke as ADC Governorship Candidate

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State for the 2027 election.

Adegoke’s Form EC9 was published on INEC’s official website in the early hours of Saturday alongside the nomination documents of other candidates contesting governorship elections across the affected states.

The development is expected to end the uncertainty that had surrounded the ADC’s choice of governorship candidate in Oyo State, following disagreements among some of the party’s aspirants over who should represent the party in the election.

The Oyo governorship election is scheduled to take place alongside governorship elections in 27 other states.

With Adegoke’s name now appearing among the candidates published by the electoral commission, the party is expected to move forward with preparations for the election under his leadership as its standard-bearer.

Reacting to the development, Adegoke appealed to other aspirants who may still be dissatisfied with the outcome of the party’s nomination process to put their differences aside and work with him ahead of the election.

He urged members and supporters of the ADC to avoid actions or statements that could create further division within the party, saying unity would be necessary for the party to mount a strong challenge in the state.

Adegoke also called on those who contested the governorship ticket to respect the decision reached by the party and the position subsequently confirmed by INEC.

He appealed for calm among party members and supporters, while urging them to concentrate on the campaign and mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 poll.

The ADC candidate said the party needed the support of its members, supporters and residents across Oyo State as it begins the next stage of its preparations for the election.

The confirmation by INEC now gives Adegoke a formal platform to campaign as the ADC’s governorship candidate in Oyo State, while the party works to consolidate its structure and mobilise voters ahead of the election.
