The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr Aminu Yusuf Wushishi, has died at the age of 66, about eight months after assuming office.

Wushishi reportedly died on Friday, August 28, 2026, after a brief illness. News of his death reached Minna, the Niger State capital, around the time of the Juma’at prayer.
His death has sparked mourning among his associates, political allies and people across Niger State.
Wushishi was reportedly taken ill shortly before his death. His Special Adviser on Media, Stanley Nwosu, confirmed the development, saying the NPC chairman died following a brief illness.
The Digital Rector of Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru, Amb. Ibrahim Umar Kontagora, also expressed sadness over Wushishi’s death, describing it as a major loss to the Kontagora Emirate, Niger State and Nigeria.

He was also known for his academic background and involvement in public service.
Wushishi succeeded Nasir Kwarra as NPC chairman following Kwarra’s tenure at the commission.
