The First Lady of Osun State, Mrs Titilola Adeleke, on Monday led a group of women to the state police command in Osogbo to protest alleged intimidation of voters ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke was accompanied by the Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Ayobola Awolowo, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Market Affairs, Eniola Omotoso.

The women marched from Lameco through the West Bypass to the police command headquarters, where they submitted a petition to the Police Commissioner responsible for election security, CP Samuel Etaifo.

Speaking during the visit, the First Lady called for a peaceful and credible election, alleging that some leaders of the Accord Party were being targeted for arrest ahead of the poll.
She also raised concerns over the reported arrest of the Osun Commissioner for Environment, saying he was allegedly subjected to degrading treatment while in police custody.

Adeleke urged the police to stop actions that could create fear among political actors and voters before the election.
Receiving the protesters, Etaifo assured them that the police would work to provide a peaceful environment for the election.
The commissioner said the security situation in the state had remained relatively calm since his deployment but warned political actors against actions that could increase tension.
Etaifo said he was deployed to Osun on the instruction of the Inspector-General of Police to stabilise the state and create an environment where all political actors could participate freely in the election.
He said the police were committed to building public confidence and ensuring that residents could come out to vote without fear on election day.
The commissioner also promised to review the issues raised by the protesters and work with his team to address their concerns.
He urged political stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies and avoid activities capable of disrupting the peaceful conduct of the election.
