The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 10,210 personnel and specialised tactical units to Osun State ahead of the governorship election.

The Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, ordered the deployment as part of measures to strengthen security and ensure the election is conducted peacefully.

The NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.

According to him, the deployment covers uniformed and undercover personnel from the Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Kogi, Delta and Federal Capital Territory commands. About 1,000 personnel from each of the commands are expected to reinforce the Osun State Command during the election.
The Corps also deployed specialised units, including the Commandant-General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, Specialised Female Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Strike Force, Crack Squad and K9 Unit.
The specialised teams will focus on intelligence gathering, crime prevention, protection of critical assets, crowd management and other security duties during the election.
To strengthen supervision, the Deputy Commandant-General in charge of Operations, Ayuba Phillip, along with designated Assistant Commandants-General and other senior officers, will relocate to Osun to coordinate the Corps’ election security operations.

Audi assured residents that NSCDC personnel would remain professional, neutral and respectful of citizens’ rights throughout the electoral process.
He said protecting voters, electoral officials and election materials would remain a major priority for the Corps.
The NSCDC boss warned political thugs and other individuals planning to disrupt the election that security agencies would take action against anyone attempting to undermine the electoral process.
He urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to maintain peace and allow voters to exercise their democratic rights without intimidation.
The Corps said it would work with the Nigeria Police Force, military and other security agencies under the existing inter-agency security arrangement to maintain order across Osun’s 30 local government areas.
Audi also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to security authorities.
He said cooperation between residents and security agencies would be crucial to ensuring a peaceful and credible election.
