Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, has said Governor Ademola Adeleke’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu will not prevent the All Progressives Congress (APC) from defeating him in the Osun State governorship election.

Oyetola made the statement on Saturday while speaking to APC stakeholders and supporters during a campaign engagement in the state.

The former Osun governor was reacting to allegations by Adeleke that members of the APC and leaders of the Accord Party were being subjected to intimidation ahead of the August 15 election.

Oyetola said the governor’s complaints suggested that he was becoming worried about the strength of the APC and its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
He argued that Adeleke’s decision to endorse Tinubu would not help him retain the Osun governorship seat, insisting that the APC remained determined to reclaim the state.
According to Oyetola, Adeleke could make several endorsements but they would not change the outcome of the election.
He also mocked the governor over his repeated references to him, saying he had deliberately avoided engaging Adeleke in public exchanges because he was focused on the election.

Oyetola accused Adeleke of being overly concerned about his activities despite his decision to concentrate on supporting the APC campaign.
The minister and former governor also dismissed claims that the APC was responsible for intimidation ahead of the election, while the party has continued to reject allegations of harassment made by the governor and his supporters.
Adeleke is seeking another term under the Accord Party and will face Oyebamiji of the APC and other candidates in Saturday’s election.
The contest has remained closely watched, with both major camps intensifying their campaigns and trading accusations over alleged violence, intimidation and arrests of political supporters.
Adeleke defeated Oyetola in the 2022 governorship election after a tightly contested race, ending the APC administration in the state at the time.
Oyetola, who governed Osun between 2018 and 2022, is now backing Oyebamiji as the APC seeks to return to power in the state.
