Accord Denies Endorsing Tinubu for 2027

The Lagos State Chairman of the Accord Party, Dele Oladeji, has rejected claims that the party has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

Oladeji, who also serves as Secretary of the Forum of Accord Party Chairmen in Southern Nigeria, described the claim as untrue and said it did not represent the official position of the party.

He made the clarification on Sunday while reacting to comments attributed to Prof. Christopher Imumolen, a factional presidential candidate of Accord, who reportedly said the party was supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Oladeji said the party’s National Executive Committee had not discussed or approved any decision to endorse Tinubu since preparations for the 2027 elections began.

He maintained that Accord remained an independent political party and had no basis for supporting the presidential candidate of another party.

The Lagos chairman described Imumolen’s reported position as a personal view that should not be presented as the decision of Accord.

He also questioned Imumolen’s current membership of the party, claiming that his name was not contained in the party’s present membership register. Oladeji said the membership register on which Imumolen’s name reportedly appeared had been replaced with a new one introduced in 2023.

He challenged Imumolen to provide evidence of his current membership and participation in recognised meetings and activities of the party.

Oladeji further said any major political decision by Accord must come through its recognised constitutional organs and could not be made by an individual.

He said the party was preparing to contest the 2027 elections at all levels, including the presidency, governorships, Senate, House of Representatives and state Houses of Assembly.

According to him, endorsing Tinubu would contradict the party’s decision to field its own presidential candidate and pursue its political programme independently.

He therefore urged party members and the public to disregard reports suggesting that Accord had reached an agreement to support Tinubu’s re-election.

Oladeji reiterated that the party would remain independent and focus on building its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
