President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of more than 3,000 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the federal civil service as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s education sector.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced the approval in a statement on Thursday. He said the decision followed a comprehensive verification exercise carried out by an inter-ministerial committee to identify eligible PTA teachers serving in federal schools.

According to the minister, priority will be given to verified PTA teachers, many of whom have worked in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for nearly 25 years without being absorbed into the public service.

Alausa disclosed that 3,252 teachers were successfully verified across different cadres, including education officers, assistant education officers and technical instructors. He explained that the teachers would be formally absorbed into the federal workforce after completing all required statutory procedures.

He described the approval as part of President Tinubu’s commitment to improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening the quality of education across the country.
The minister added that the recruitment forms part of the Federal Government’s wider plan to improve the standard of teaching and reposition Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges as centres of academic excellence.
Alausa also thanked President Tinubu for approving the recruitment, saying the move would reward years of service by PTA teachers and help address manpower needs in federal schools.
He maintained that improving the quality of teachers remains essential to building a stronger education system, noting that the standard of any country’s education depends largely on the quality of its teachers.
