Aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched a fresh attack on former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, urging him to step back from active politics and stop what he described as repeated public attacks on political opponents.

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, said Bode George should conduct himself with greater maturity and dignity, considering his age and years of public service.

He argued that someone who served as Military Governor of the old Ondo State in 1988 should act like an elder statesman instead of regularly appearing in the media to criticise younger politicians.

Olayinka also questioned George’s political record in Lagos State, claiming that the PDP has remained unsuccessful in the state under his leadership since 1999.
According to him, while the PDP has produced governors in states such as Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Osun, the party has failed to achieve similar success in Lagos.
He urged the PDP chieftain to focus on explaining the party’s poor electoral performance in Lagos instead of attacking others.
The FCT minister’s aide further said respect for elders in Yoruba culture comes with responsibility, arguing that senior public figures should avoid actions capable of diminishing their reputation.

Olayinka also referred to past public statements by Bode George in which he repeatedly vowed to leave Nigeria if President Bola Tinubu became president.
He claimed that George made similar declarations in 2015, 2020, 2021 and 2022, including statements that he would relocate to another country if Tinubu eventually assumed office.
According to Olayinka, despite Tinubu serving as president for more than three years, George has remained in Nigeria, raising questions about the credibility of his public declarations.
He also defended Wike’s earlier remarks concerning a property linked to Bode George in Abuja.
Olayinka insisted that the minister’s claim was not about who sold the property or how it was acquired, but about the source of the funds allegedly used to purchase it.
He maintained that Wike stands by his allegation that the money used to acquire the property originated from Rivers State and said Bode George should address that specific claim.
