Gunmen Kill Army Colonel in Abuja

A serving officer of the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, has been killed after armed men attacked his residence in the Kurudu area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The attack occurred on Monday evening when the senior military officer returned home from work. According to security sources, the gunmen attempted to abduct him or members of his family. However, the officer resisted the attackers, leading to a violent confrontation.

During the struggle, the assailants opened fire, killing Colonel Ude. His wife, driver and security guard also sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Sources disclosed that the officer, who was from Enugu State, was widely respected within the military for his professionalism, discipline and approachable nature. He was also expected to be promoted next year.

The circumstances surrounding the attack have raised concerns among security officials, with preliminary findings suggesting that the gunmen may have deliberately targeted the officer. Military authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the killing.

Before his death, Colonel Ude served in several key military intelligence and counter-terrorism positions within the Armed Forces. He was involved in a number of security operations aimed at tackling insurgency and other security threats.

Meanwhile, in Plateau State, the Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged mob killing of a 25-year-old model, Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as “Ibee.”

The incident happened on Sunday at an apartment located behind the City of David area along Ring Road in Jos.

Mbaya, a graduate of the University of Jos who was still resolving an outstanding academic matter, had attended a social gathering on campus before deciding to spend the night at a friend’s residence because it was too late to return home.

According to reports, the following morning, his host discovered that an iPhone was missing and accused Mbaya of stealing it, claiming they were the only people in the room.

Although Mbaya initially left the apartment, he later returned after receiving a phone call informing him about the missing device.

On his arrival, he was reportedly confronted by his friend and several other young men who accused him of taking the phone. Witnesses said the group allegedly assaulted him for several hours in an attempt to force a confession.

The attackers reportedly beat him with sticks and other objects until he lost consciousness.

A nurse was later invited to examine him but confirmed that he had died. There were also reports that efforts were made to move his body to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Jos University Teaching Hospital before security agencies became aware of the incident.

The death of the young model has sparked anger among residents, students, family members and people within Plateau State’s fashion and entertainment industry, where he was regarded as a promising talent.

Friends described him as hardworking, peaceful and dedicated, saying his death was a painful loss.

The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident and disclosed that officers responded after receiving information from a Good Samaritan that an unconscious man had been brought to the Jos University Teaching Hospital under suspicious circumstances.

Police officers who arrived at the hospital identified the victim as Ibrahim Mbaya of Rayfield, Jos. Medical personnel confirmed that he was dead on arrival.

His remains have been deposited in the hospital mortuary for an autopsy, while detectives have commenced a full investigation into the incident.

The police also confirmed the arrest of Rinji Fwanji, Emmanuel Newyear and Nensemka Fwanji in connection with the alleged killing. Authorities said investigations are continuing and anyone found responsible will face prosecution.
