Fubara Has Corrected His Mistakes — Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara made the right decision by reconciling with his political camp, insisting the governor simply returned to the political family that brought him into office.

Wike spoke on Tuesday while addressing journalists after inspecting ongoing road projects in the Federal Capital Territory. He dismissed claims that Fubara needed forgiveness following the prolonged political crisis between both camps.

According to the minister, politics is about recognising mistakes and taking steps to correct them, adding that there was nothing unusual about Fubara’s decision to reconcile.

He said he had earlier predicted that the governor would eventually return to the political structure that supported his emergence, describing the reconciliation as the only realistic path available.

Wike stated that Fubara had now publicly confirmed his return, adding that he and his supporters were ready to receive him and work together for the progress of Rivers State.

The former Rivers governor also linked the reconciliation to preparations for the 2027 general election, expressing confidence that the renewed alliance would strengthen efforts to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He said the political family would unite behind the President and work together to deliver the required votes in Rivers State.

Speaking on infrastructure, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress of major road projects across the FCT, including the ISEX Road Corridor and the Apo-Karshi Road.

He said construction on the ISEX Road began immediately after President Tinubu flagged off the project during activities marking the administration’s third anniversary and disclosed that the contractor had assured the government the project would be ready for commissioning in December.

The minister noted that the 10-kilometre road, awarded in 2014, had remained incomplete under previous administrations. He said the contractor had undertaken to complete six kilometres of the road and key interchanges before the end of the year, provided the necessary funds are released.

Wike said the FCT Administration had appealed to the Minister of Finance to release funds already provided for the project in the national budget to enable the contractor meet the target.

He added that completing the ISEX Road and the nearly finished Apo-Karshi Road reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to completing inherited projects instead of abandoning them.

According to him, many projects across the FCT were left unfinished before the current administration took office in 2023, but President Tinubu directed that such projects be completed to protect public investments and improve infrastructure across the capital.

Wike maintained that responsible leadership is measured by continuity and the completion of projects that benefit the public, regardless of which administration initiated them.
