NNPP Chairman Defects, Emerges DLA Acting Chairman

The Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State, Tosin Odeyemi, has resigned from the party and has been appointed as the acting chairman of the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) in the state.

Odeyemi, who is known to be an ally of former Kano State Governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 16 and addressed to the National Chairman of the NNPP. In the letter, he requested that his name and details be removed from the party’s register. However, he did not state the reason behind his decision to leave the party.

A day after his resignation, Odeyemi unveiled his new political platform and announced that he had accepted his appointment as the pioneer acting chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance in Osun State.

His appointment was contained in a letter dated July 17, 2026, and signed by the National Chairman of the DLA, Samuel Memeh. According to the letter, the appointment followed the approval of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

The appointment places Odeyemi in charge of building and coordinating the activities of the DLA in Osun State. He is expected to establish functional party structures across the state, ensure that the party operates in line with its constitution and guiding principles, and regularly report the activities of the state chapter to the National Working Committee (NWC).

Reacting to the appointment, Odeyemi expressed appreciation to the party’s national leadership, including the National Chairman, the NEC and the NWC, for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the party in Osun State.

He described the appointment as a call to service and said his immediate priority would be to unite party members, strengthen internal discipline and position the Democratic Leadership Alliance as a credible political alternative for the people of Osun State.

He also assured the national leadership that the Osun chapter would operate with transparency, accountability and commitment while appealing to party members and stakeholders to support the new platform.

Before his resignation, Odeyemi had recently secured another four-year term as chairman of the NNPP in Osun State after being returned unopposed during the party’s state congress held in Osogbo.

The congress, which was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and representatives of the party’s national leadership, also produced other state executives through affirmation.

Among those elected were Adekunle Abolade as Deputy Chairman, Hisa Oladeji as Secretary, Mofolasayo Makinde as Treasurer, Aderonke Aderemi as Financial Secretary, Olanrewaju Hassan as Internal Auditor, Olayode Abidemi as Youth Leader, Ajileye Balikis as Women Leader and Olayode Olawumi as Legal Adviser.

Odeyemi’s departure marks a major leadership change for the NNPP in Osun State and gives the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance an experienced political figure as it begins to establish its presence ahead of future elections.
