Troops Apprehend Terrorist Informants, Logistics Suppliers

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have arrested suspected terrorist informants and logistics suppliers, received the surrender of a suspected ISWAP member and destroyed improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during separate operations carried out across Borno State within the last 24 hours.

An operational report obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday said soldiers of the 195 Battalion, working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), arrested a suspected ISWAP/JAS informant in Dusuman Ward of Mafa Local Government Area.

According to the report, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly met with terrorists at Labe village, where he provided information on the movement and activities of troops.

The report also stated that troops of the 73 Battalion arrested a suspected ISWAP member in Konduga Local Government Area after he voluntarily surrendered to the military.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted taking part in three attacks on Delwa and told investigators that he threw his AK-47 rifle into a river before surrendering.

Items recovered from him included a bicycle, a cutlass, bicycle repair tools and ₦6,500 in cash.

In another operation, troops of the 149 Battalion, alongside members of the CJTF, arrested another suspected terrorist informant in Gubio Local Government Area.

According to the military, the suspect confessed to leading the terrorist infiltration of Gubio on June 16, an attack in which a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force was killed.

Elsewhere, troops of the 19 Battalion and the 25 Brigade Garrison intercepted suspected terrorist logistics suppliers near Road Kauji in Damboa Local Government Area.

The suspects reportedly fled when they noticed the approaching troops, abandoning two bicycles and several items believed to have been meant for terrorists.

The recovered items included cartons of energy drinks, milk, soft drinks, veterinary medicines and a canopy.

In a separate operation, troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade discovered an improvised explosive device planted by terrorists in a farming area around Dagari in the Sambisa Forest, located in Bama Local Government Area.

Military personnel safely detonated the explosive without any casualties.

The military said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to break terrorist support networks, restrict the movement of insurgents and improve security across communities in the North-East.
