Gunmen Murder Lagos NURTW Secretary

The Organising Secretary of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Toba Ajiboye, widely known as Ijaya, has died after he was attacked by armed men in Lagos.

The incident occurred on Sunday night while Ajiboye was returning home from his childhood neighbourhood in Fadeyi. The attackers reportedly intercepted his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road axis before opening fire on it.

The vehicle was left riddled with bullets, with several parts, including the windscreen, badly damaged. Images and videos that surfaced on social media after the shooting showed the extent of the destruction caused by the attack.

Initial reports indicated that Ajiboye and other occupants of the vehicle survived after suffering gunshot wounds. However, later information confirmed that the union official eventually died from the injuries he sustained.

The Chairman of the Lagos State NURTW, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, expressed sorrow over Ajiboye’s death, describing him as a loyal associate and trusted friend.

In a message shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Sego said the news of Ajiboye’s death came as a painful shock. He stated that the late union official remained dedicated to both the union and their political structure throughout his lifetime.

Sego described Ajiboye as a dependable companion whose loyalty and commitment earned him respect within TeamSego and SegoNation. He said the deceased made valuable contributions to the union over the years and would always be remembered for his dedication and friendship.

The union chairman also extended his condolences to Ajiboye’s family, friends and members of the NURTW, praying for God to forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest and give those he left behind the strength to bear the loss.

He added that Ajiboye’s loyalty, friendship and support would remain unforgettable and that his absence would be deeply felt by those who knew him.
