Fubara Set to Present Rivers 2026 Budget Today

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is expected to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Rivers State House of Assembly today after all arrangements for the exercise were concluded.

Information obtained on Friday morning indicated that the governor would appear before the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, at the Assembly Quarters Auditorium, which is currently being used for legislative sittings while work continues on the reconstruction of the Assembly complex.

A source at the Government House disclosed that preparations had been completed and that the governor was ready to lay the budget before the lawmakers.

The source said the budget presentation would take place today, bringing to an end weeks of anticipation over the fiscal proposal.

Another source within the House of Assembly also confirmed that lawmakers were scheduled to sit today and were expecting the governor to appear before them to present the 2026 budget.

The source stated that the House was fully prepared for the sitting and that the governor was expected to present the appropriation bill during the session.

The planned presentation has brought relief to many stakeholders, especially government agencies and public workers who had been worried about the state’s financial operations without an approved budget.

The Rivers State Government has been operating under the constitutional provision that allowed spending for six months without a new budget, but that arrangement expired on June 30.

The delay in presenting the 2026 budget was largely linked to the political dispute between Governor Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly.

However, the recent approval of the governor’s 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) by the Assembly cleared the way for the presentation of the new budget.

Many observers believe the latest development points to improving relations between the executive and the legislature after months of political tension.
