Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed reports claiming he was offered ₦500 billion to contest against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in order to divide votes in the South-South ahead of the 2027 election.

The denial was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr Ikechukwu Eze.

Eze described the report as false, baseless and completely fabricated, urging Nigerians to ignore the publication.

According to him, the report originated from a little-known website that falsely claimed Jonathan said he was offered ₦500 billion to enter the presidential race.

He stated that the publication failed to provide any evidence to support the allegation, including where or when Jonathan allegedly made the statement, who was present or who supposedly made the offer.
Eze said the report did not meet basic journalistic standards and was designed to mislead the public and drag the former president into unnecessary political controversy.
He added that false reports and misinformation often increase as election periods approach, warning Nigerians against believing or sharing unverified political claims.
The media aide urged members of the public to disregard the report entirely and verify sensational stories before circulating them.
