Former Senator representing Ogun Central, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, has explained that her decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was driven by her desire to serve the people of Ogun Central more effectively.

She spoke while receiving members of the Liberty Group, a political support group within the Jelili Kayode Amusan Concerned Volunteers, during a visit to her residence at the Obasanjo Hilltop in Abeokuta.

Obasanjo-Bello said her political decisions have always been guided by her concern for the welfare of ordinary people. According to her, the PDP provides a platform that aligns with her commitment to helping communities through humanitarian activities and programmes that directly benefit residents.

She recalled her time as Ogun State Commissioner for Health and later as Senator representing Ogun Central, stating that public service gave her the opportunity to support many people through different development and welfare initiatives. She added that she intends to continue those efforts by working with different political groups across the senatorial district.
The former senator disclosed that plans were already underway to bring various support groups together under one political structure ahead of future elections. She also expressed her support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying she would work with others to promote peace and political stability during the next general election.

Obasanjo-Bello said remaining in the APC was no longer consistent with the direction she wanted to take in serving the people of Ogun Central, adding that this informed her decision to join the PDP.
Earlier, the leader of the Liberty Group, Mr Kazeem Adedoyin, said the organisation has members across Ifo, Ewekoro, Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Local Government Areas.
Adedoyin explained that the group decided to support Obasanjo-Bello because of what it described as her record of service while representing Ogun Central in the Senate between 2007 and 2011.
He added that the group remained committed to her political ambition and also pledged support for the PDP governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, during the forthcoming election. According to him, more than 95 per cent of the group’s members possess valid Permanent Voter Cards and are prepared to participate fully in the election.
