Keep Schools Closed Until Abducted Schoolchildren Are Freed – Socialist Labour

The Socialist Labour movement has urged the Oyo State Government not to reopen schools until all pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area regain their freedom.

The group accused both the state and Federal Government of failing to act with enough urgency since the incident.

The organisation said the slow response had left families in pain while public officials carried on with normal activities.

It warned that reopening schools before the victims return and stronger security measures are introduced would put more lives at risk.

The group called on the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, Nigeria Union of Teachers and civil society organisations to organise peaceful protests.

It also appealed to Nigerians to keep demanding the safe return of the captives and better protection for schools.

The appeal follows the May 15 attack in Oriire, where armed men invaded three schools, kidnapped pupils and teachers, and escaped into the forests around Old Oyo National Park.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, while parents have kept children away from school and teachers remain on strike over safety concerns.
