FG Set To Review N70,000 Minimum Wage – Gbajabiamila

The Federal Government has indicated that Nigeria’s N70,000 minimum wage may be reviewed as economic conditions continue to change.

The announcement was made on Thursday in Abuja by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, during the Good Governance Summit 2026.

The current wage was introduced in July 2024 after President Bola Tinubu approved an increase from N30,000.

The administration also reduced the wage review period from five years to three years to allow adjustments that better reflect changing living costs.
Gbajabiamila said the government understands that rising expenses are affecting workers and promised that any future wage review would be handled through cooperation with organised labour.
He added that the government sees labour as a partner in the process.
Labour Minister Muhammad Dingyadi said government policies should improve the lives of workers through better opportunities and social protection.
The National Coordinator of Working People United, Williams Akporeha, also stressed that workers remain central to the country’s growth and development.
