INEC And Police Ready Across LGs For Ekiti Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission has begun distributing sensitive materials ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State, with electoral officers across the 16 local government areas receiving ballot papers and other documents.

The exercise took place under the watch of political parties, security agencies, observers and media representatives as preparations entered the final stage.

INEC said arrangements had been completed for a smooth, free and credible poll. Resident Electoral Commissioner Bunmi Omoseyindemi stated that materials were first sent to councils farthest from Ado Ekiti to ensure timely delivery.

He also urged voters to participate peacefully and assured residents that the process would reflect the will of the people.

Security agencies have rolled out a comprehensive plan to safeguard the election.

Election Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle said officers would escort materials from distribution centres to polling units, while additional personnel would protect voters, election workers and observers.

Authorities also warned that vote-buying and other electoral offences would attract penalties under the law.

Civil society groups, media organisations and international observers have also intensified monitoring efforts.

Yiaga Africa cautioned politicians against exploiting economic hardship through vote trading, while the European Union and partner organisations launched a joint observation hub to track developments in real time.

Stakeholders called for peaceful participation, transparency and respect for democratic processes as Ekiti voters prepare to choose their next governor.
