A prosecution witness in the ongoing money laundering trial involving former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has told the court that the ex-governor was not connected to the property transactions under review.

The 17th witness, who testified during cross-examination in Abuja on Wednesday, said Bello had no role in the purchase or handling of the property located at Ikogosi Spring Close in Maitama, Abuja.

He also said another defendant was not involved in the transactions.


According to the witness, a businessman identified as Farouk Bello acted as the agent in acquiring the property.

He added that certain documents relating to the transaction were later returned to the estate company after being processed.


The witness, a commodity trader from Katsina State, said he knew one of the individuals linked to the case through business dealings involving agricultural commodities but denied any personal or direct connection to the disputed property dealings.


The defence counsel used the cross-examination to question the witness’s knowledge of the transactions, while the prosecution maintained that the testimony should not be interpreted as evidence of inheritance or ownership transfer.
