Obi Defends Lawsuit Against Okonkwo

Former Anambra State governor and Nigerian Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has defended his decision to sue former campaign spokesman Kenneth Okonkwo over allegations made against him.

Obi said the legal action became necessary after Okonkwo suggested he had more claims to reveal in the future, prompting him to seek a judicial process where all accusations can be openly examined.

Speaking during a podcast interview, Obi said public figures seeking leadership positions should be willing to face scrutiny.

He maintained that any allegations concerning his character, conduct or public record should be presented before a court so Nigerians can assess the facts for themselves.

He said transparency is necessary for anyone aspiring to hold public office.

The former presidential candidate also dismissed reports of serious divisions within his political camp.

He explained that disagreements are common in organisations and said issues that arose had been discussed and resolved.

Obi insisted that the movement remains focused despite speculation about internal disputes.

The dispute follows corruption allegations made by Okonkwo, who was once one of Obi’s closest political allies.

Obi’s legal team described the accusations as defamatory and damaging to his reputation, demanding a retraction and apology.

The controversy deepened after Okonkwo reportedly released WhatsApp messages which he claimed supported his allegations.
