In a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB thanked supporters, sympathisers and advocates of self-determination who took part in memorial activities.

The group said the observance was peaceful and widely embraced in several communities.

IPOB also acknowledged participation from residents in parts of the South-South and North-Central regions, as well as supporters living abroad.

According to the group, remembrance events, prayer sessions and awareness campaigns were organised in countries including the United States, Canada, Germany, France and the United Arab Emirates.

The group said the annual event remains important in preserving the history of the Biafran struggle and remembering victims of the war.

It also encouraged younger generations to learn about the conflict and the sacrifices made during the 1967–1970 civil war.
