Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has accused the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) of manipulating its Federal Capital Territory senatorial primary, claiming the outcome was settled privately rather than through an open contest.

She maintained that she remained in the race until the end and did not withdraw from the exercise.

According to Yesufu, the process was plagued by repeated postponements, venue changes and alterations to the agreed voting method.

She said a delegate system was eventually adopted and that the final decision did not reflect the wishes of party members who expected a transparent primary.


Despite her objections, the former aspirant said she would not head to court over the outcome.

Instead, she described the experience as a lesson in the realities of Nigeria’s political system and said she chose not to become trapped in a prolonged dispute process.


Looking ahead, Yesufu said she would remain politically active and continue pushing for change in the FCT.
