Olubadan Warns Politicians Ahead of 2027 Election
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has warned politicians that his name or palace connection will not guarantee victory in the 2027 elections.
He gave the advice on Eid day in Ibadan while speaking to journalists. He said voters will focus more on performance and track record than influence or endorsements.
Where he spoke was Ibadan, Oyo State, shortly after his Eid-el-Kabir prayers. The monarch said political aspirants often try to link themselves with respected figures to boost their image.
He added that such associations will not decide electoral outcomes in the next general election.
Why he made the comment was to caution politicians against relying on name-dropping instead of delivering results.
He said citizens have become more aware and will choose leaders based on past performance and quality of service. He also encouraged them to focus on policies that improve people’s lives.
How elections will be decided, according to him, is through voters’ judgment of candidates’ records and leadership capacity.
He urged politicians to campaign peacefully and concentrate on governance rather than propaganda. The monarch also called for unity and stronger cooperation in addressing insecurity in Oyo State.
