NCAA Suspends Airline Debt Sanctions

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has suspended its earlier “No Pay No Service” action against indebted airlines in Nigeria after fresh consultations with industry players.

The decision comes as airlines continue to struggle with rising operational costs.

The regulator had earlier moved to restrict services to about 11 airlines over unpaid statutory charges.

The move affected carriers such as Air Peace, Ibom Air, Arik Air and others, following an internal directive circulated within its offices.
Authorities later said the suspension was introduced to avoid further pressure on an already struggling aviation sector.
They explained that discussions were ongoing with airlines on how to structure repayment of outstanding debts.
The NCAA stressed that the debts have not been cancelled and all affected operators must still meet their obligations.
It added that aviation charges remain vital for regulatory work and safety operations across the industry.
